Chez Georges

1 rue du Mail - 75002 Paris

This typical Parisian old bistro, with an air of 1900, started again in 2010 by two brothers – already owners of the « Bistrot de Paris » and of the restaurant « chez René » – has retained its timeless charm of the era. Steps from the Place des Victoire and barely farther from the Palais Royal, this restaurant is the perfect place to take a break and travel through time by sitting at the large counters or in the room decorated in full length mirrors that show infinite reflections, the moleskin banquettes and tables covered with pristine white tablecloths. The menu always offers a classic cuisine, with a traditional or retro touch such as Burgundy snail & garlic butter, potted Goose, poached eggs with a « frisée » salad and crispy lardons, grilled entrecôte (steak), succulent beef steak and mustard sauce (“Mail Pavé”) or even the sweetbreads with morels. For dessert, you’ll be easiy tempted by the chocolate profiteroles (Pastry balls filled with old ice cold Vanilla and laden with hot chocolate sauce), tarte tatin (upside down apple pie) or rum baba. The plates are generous and always use quality products. Great French wines (Roannaise coast, Saint Joseph, etc …) offered on the menu are also served in pewter jugs. Despite the fact that the place is not cheap, it is no wonder that this place has many devotees. Reservations recommended.
