Victor Hugo House

6 place des Vosges - 75004 Paris

When going for stroll under the arcades of the celebrated Place des Vosges, recognizable by the red / ocher walls, don’t miss a visit to the home of the famous author of “Les Miserables” and “Notre Dame de Paris,” Victor Hugo.
From 1832 to 1848 he lived in the heart of a building that is now named Hotel de Rohan-Guéménée where he wrote some of his major works and hosted the greatest writers of his time like Alexander Dumas, Lamartine and Théophile Gautier.
The visit of the apartment and museum follows the three chronological periods of his life: before his exile, in exile in Guernesey, and after exile, all presented through various personal memories like drawings and family portraits and lavish decorations like Chinese and Gothic furniture.
A visit in the footsteps of one of the greatest French writers is not to be missed before going for a walk through one of the prettiest squares in the capital.
