Les Délices d’Aphrodite

4 rue de Candolle - 75005 Paris

The Mavrommatis brothers (Andreas and Evagoras), themselves from Cyprus, are the best ambassadors of Greek cuisine in Paris. They started with the opening of this authentic tavern in 1981 and a chic gourmet restaurant, bearing their name, nearby. Located near the Jardin des Plantes and the famous Rue Mouffetard (a lively pedestrian street in the Latin Quarter), the restaurant is known as “the little Mavro” by regulars. Here the service is friendly. The dishes are hearty, simple, yet tasty and made entirely with fresh, quality products made into classics like eggplant caviar, the big mezze, taztzikis, and cheese puffs, but also other specialties not to be missed, such as the octopus fried in olive oil, or the mahalepi (milk cream with orange flower) or even still the roast suckling lamb. For dessert, you can feast with a traditional cheese with honey and pistachios before finishing with Ouzo. The menu also offers fine Greek wines. Yamas! Crowned with their success, the Mavrommatis brothers even opened several catering addresses with their name in Paris, one in the 2nd arrondissement near Madeleine. When the weather is nice, it’s nice to enjoy the sun on the terrace where tables and wooden chairs add to the authenticity of the Cyprian atmosphere, and in addition the lunch formula is priced very reasonable at € 19. Yammas!
